Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Flight Safety Foundation announced today that Dr. Harold O. Demuren had been recognized with the FSF-Boeing Aviation Safety Lifetime Achievement Award at its 67th annual International Air Safety Summit.
“Harold has spent more than 40 years of his professional career dedicated to raising the aviation safety standards in Africa,” stated Jon L. Beatty, president and CEO of FSF. “The African aviation community is stronger and safer thanks to his tireless commitment and we are all grateful for his hard work.”
Dr. Demuren began his career with the Federal Ministry of Civil Aviation in Nigeria and was appointed the director general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in 2005. He held that position until 2013.
As director general, Dr. Demuren introduced best practices and standards to Nigerian aviation and Nigeria successfully completed the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme in 2006.
“Harold has demonstrated his strong ethics and professionalism in every position he has held, including as a board member of the Flight Safety Foundation. His is an important voice in the international safety community,” Beatty continued. “This recognition is well deserved.”
The FSF-Boeing Aviation Safety Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual for his or her lifetime commitment and contribution to enhancing aviation safety. It was established in 2002.
